BNP PARIBAS GROUP LAUNCHES ‘ONE MILLION HOURS’ CAMPAIGN

As a global company, BNP Paribas Group’s employees’ work has made a big impact - proving small acts of kindness can make a big impact – not just on an international scale, but also closer to home in the local communities surrounding our offices. As part of our commitment to achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through our corporate social responsibility (CSR) policies, all our employees are given one day a year to donate their time and volunteer for a charity or cause close to their hearts.

In celebration of this, in 2020 we’ve set ourselves a goal of collectively donating an incredible one million hours of our time to community work and volunteering.

To mark this very exciting launch, we sat down with Tanya Gamble, talent and career business partner at BNP Paribas Personal Finance UK, to find out why volunteering is such a valuable part of her work.  

Tanya first joined BNP Paribas Personal Finance in the contact centre before working her way up to her current position, where she is responsible for career conversations with employees and helping guide them towards their aspirations.

Tanya’s tenacity and enthusiasm for the company shines through, and she is proactive in seeking out opportunities to get involved in projects and develop her skills. She believes that it is important to lead by example and show other people that if you put the time and effort in, you’ll see the rewards.

One of the ways that Tanya leads by example is through her involvement in the Corporate Social Responsibility committee, which decides what initiatives the company will put forward in order to achieve their CSR and SDG goals.

The CSR committee works with employees to help them give back to local charities. Last year, Tanya and some of her colleagues took part in a skydive which saw them raise over £500 for their local Marie Curie hospice.

This year, lots of mini activities were held around the Solihull office, such as a raffle and a bake-off, this time raising money for the community’s Marie Curie ‘Men’s Shed’ project. Colleagues at BNP Paribas Personal Finance keep a close relationship with the local hospice, and several employees use their volunteer hour to visit the charity, donating not only funds to the cause, but their time, too.

Tanya says: “The encouragement and support that BNP Paribas Personal Finance offers their employees to volunteer for worthy causes is one of the big reasons I believe the company is such a great place to work.

“The volunteer days, known in the business as ‘What’s My Impact’ days, have been a part of life at BNP Paribas for a while, but the 1 million hours campaign is a great way of setting ourselves a huge target.

“It just goes to show that individually we can all make a small difference, but when we all work together, we can make a huge impact.”
